Distinctive Features of the Institution:
Our mission is to attempt an all-round development of our students, which, we believe, distinguishes us as an undergraduate college. While we make every effort to give students the highest kind of academic inputs, we also ensure the flowering of their cultural and intellectual development without which no all-round development is complete. We create opportunities for our students to express their creative potential by training them in leadership and representational activities through the mock parliament. Our students have distinguished themselves by winning awards in Youth Parliament Competitions at the district and divisional levels which have entitled them participation at the state level competitions.
This apart, we observe special occasions and the birth anniversaries of eminent Indians and host lectures on them in which students from different departments are invited to speak. Needless to say, teachers give the material and moral support to students in such intellectual activities beyond the boundaries of their syllabi. But most distinctively, our college being located in the vicinity of Visva-Bharati, the unique university founded by Rabindranath Tagore, we are inspired by its cultural values. To say the least, we have two teachers who are distinguished singers of national and international repute. It is under their aegis, and a few other accomplished members of our faculty, we host a number of cultural programmes, thus bringing out the creative and expressive potential in our students. Our programmes on 15th August, Netaji Jayanti, 26th January, Tagore’s birth anniversary, the tree-plantation programme-- to name a few-- draw a huge gathering of general audience inside the college premises. In order to give professional training in dance, we have, out of our own limited resources, appointed a qualified dance teacher for our students. Experts in instrumental music also lend great support to us on occasions. The combination of all these contributions, have earned our college a name in cultural activities.
Finally, to buttress, the intellectual ability, each of our departments publishes a wall magazine of very high standard. These magazines carry creative and discursive writings by students. Teachers stand as mentors in these activities.
Thus, when students pass out of our college, they do not only carry a certificate of academic qualification. They go out into the larger world as complete human beings with their other potentials nurtured and nourished. This kind of training and the creation of facilities for the flowering of their potential, we believe, while building in them a sense of a larger community, stand them in good stead in later life.
