Introduction:

Bolpur College Library is the focal point for all academic activities of the college. The library was initiated along with the establishment of the College in the year of 1950. It is well stocked and presently   having   collection   of over 30000 volumes   on   different subjects that   are   science, arts   and   commerce. Latest   publications in the fields of   science, humanities and social sciences are continuously upgraded to the collection to equip students with a wide range of academic resources. Data entry work of science subjects as well as English & Geography have been already completed and students, teachers can access the bibliographic record through OPAC in the library.

LIBRARY SPACE

The college has a separate library building with total area of 3358 Sq ft (312 Sq. Meter) with seating capacity of 54 students and 8 scholar's altogether.

Aims And Objectives

  1. To select, acquire, organize and utilize reading materials for the purpose of information dissemination, relevant to the aims and objectives of the college.
  2. To provide services to users for effective utilization of library resources.
  3. To encourage reading habits particularly of the student community and to make them aware of the importance of Library in career building.
  4. To provide nascent thought of the subject to the teaching community to upgrade themselves and help them to teach.

RULES OF THE COLLEGE LIBRARY

  1. Only registered member are allowed to use the library.  Members should always bring their membership cards while using the library.
  2. Readers should maintain strict silence inside the library.
  3. Borrowers must satisfy themselves with the physical condition of the book before borrowing.
  4. 3 Books for Hons and 2 Books for Pass students are issued for one month.
  5. Reference books, journals & magazines are not issued at all.
  6. Students can reserve the books at the circulation counter in case there are already issued.
  7. Library can recall any issued book even before due date.
  8. In case, loss of library cards, duplicate will be issued on payment of Rs. 5.00 per card.
  9. If any book is damaged/loss, the same will be replaced by the membership concerned.
  10. Students must return the books within specified date; otherwise their cards are suspended for two weeks.
  11. Uses of mobile phones are not allowed inside the library.
  12. Teachers must renew their issued books once in a year that is in the month of March.

DATABASE:

Koha is an integrated open source software package specially design and create for bibliographic records of books and users can search this bibliographic records through Web OPAC, presently one client machine has been installed for this purpose. Another client machine has been installed for teachers to search bibliographic records of books as well as NLIST e-Resources. This software helps in efficiently managing the day to day operations of a Library and also helps in generating various reports.

BOOKS ARRANGEMENTS:

Bolpur College library arrange the books according to the systematic structure of a library classification scheme. Class No is assigned according to the 19th edition of DDC (Dewey Decimal Classification). It is popularly used classification scheme for library community throughout the world. The call number consists of the Dewey notation (DDC 19th ed.) for its class, accompanied by a book number. The call number provides a unique identifying code that is used as an �address� of a document on the shelf.
